January Motivation

January motivation – something I’ve always struggled with….

Hello and belated Happy New Year. One of my aims this year is to get better about blogging about what I’ve been up to in the studio so here is my first post of 2023!

I often find January quite a difficult month. The weather is usually pretty grey and miserable and despite having lots of time to get on with projects in my studio, I often find I lose motivation and struggle to get started. This year January has been different for me, I feel very upbeat and motivated and have been very productive. I’m not exactly sure why this is but it’s certainly very welcome.

I think it helps if I set myself clear objectives. If I lack motivation one day I can refer to my objectives and hopefully work out what I need to work on. Like all the best objectives, I’m trying to make these S.M.A.R.T and I’ll be reviewing them regularly throughout the year.

This month I’ve been working on some commissions that have been queued up for a while. During the busy autumn events season I struggle to find concentrated time in the studio to work on commissions because I’m constantly preparing for the next event. I’ve had two lovely projects to work on: one was a landscape commissioned as a gift and the other is a large bird painting commissioned to hang in a newly refitted kitchen. I can’t reveal the results yet as the commissioners have yet to see them but watch this space.

Also in January I’ve been busy booking events for this year. These bookings always have to be done a long time in advance so I’m doing entry forms now for events that aren’t happening until July and August! Please see my events page for a list of what I have planned so far.

And last but not least I’ve been making some improvements to my website. I felt that navigation through the site could be a bit cumbersome so I’ve tried to streamline it a bit. There is also always work to do adding in new paintings and keeping information up to date. If you have any feedback on the website experience please drop me a line through my contact form.
